on the road with the evolver tour…
Hey guys…so i decided to write..i’m on the road with the Evolver tour and john legend…Opening up for him no less…and having a cool time…
I’m actually as i type listening to beats for the new album…i think (at the risk of me sounding defensive but fuck it i’ma say it anyway) contrary to seemingly popular opinion…just because i work with a great songwriter does not mean he wrote or writes all my songs..no my friends…i write also, have always written and will continue to do so..i think thats the only way to be completely honest as a musician….
anyhow lemme stop harping…
I’m sitting in a hotel room watching DL Hughley on cnn…and Michaela Angela Davis (google her) speaking abt the inauguration and it hit me that since last week and indeed leading up to it there hasn’t been that many politically educated black women on tv speaking abt the inauguration…
So she made a good point that it was great (in one of the news clips) to see Barack and his youngest daughter Sasha walking hand in hand and that Sasha was practically bouncing as he held her hand smiling - the whole aura was “My Little princess” - Barack and “Yes - this is my daddy!” and that Michelle is womanly, undictated to and strong without being overbearing..(or something to that effect…I was just cosigning out loud at that point) - (sidebar - i just loved the protective air Malia had with Sasha and even her mum…reminded me of me and my tribe of brothers and sisters at church..telling them to shush..or just letting them know how to behave - maan..those days - never thought id say i miss that part of my life a lil bit - theyre all grown and pretty enough to take care of themselves!)
I tell you it struck me because today(or “yesterday”) you just don’t see that as an example…black or not. I can tell you I’ve not felt like that abt a father figure (related or not) in my life.
I said on the 4th maybe people will start to look @ michelle obama (laywer, mother, real, feminine, clearminded) as the standard of woman they want …not the “standard type” so many young boys grown up thinking is the right woman. Also Us women will start looking for a man with a brain and confidence enough to handle a who is educated and great…instead of dumbing it down to fit what were told we will have to be in order to get a man.
